Welch ProBoost Diffusion Pump
The ProBoost Diffusion Pump from Welch is an air-cooled gas jet vacuum pump. The pump operates by boiling silicone and channeling the vapors through a hollow cone, creating what is known as a “gas jet”.
With no moving parts, the pump was designed to be simple and straightforward. When the pressure inside the system reaches below .2 Torr (or 200 millitorrs), the pump kicks into gear.
Achieve lower pressure for more precise fractionation.
A useful tip: When the ProBoost is combined with a rotary vane pump, operators will see the pressure reduced to .00002 Torr, which is 20x lower than the pressure in a 2-stage rotary vane pump alone.
A benefit of the lower vacuum pressures is that fractions can be pulled off at lower temperatures more precisely. Normally, Wiped Film Stills can pull terpenes and light-boiling-point compounds into the desired end product.
The Welch ProBoost aids Wiped Film Evaporators by offering them a 20% to 50% improvement in feed and collection rates, thanks to lower pressures and increased flow rates.
