Hot Condenser Mantle Kit

This kit is compatible with any of Lab Society’s detachable condenser-style distillation heads.

Our Hot Condenser Mantle Kit enables batch distillation operators to utilize secondary separation techniques for standard short path distillation systems.  

Secondary separation enables the operator to re-boil condensed constituents (targeting impurities) that boil below the set point of the condenser. The result is more precise fraction collections between two (2) boiling points.  

Kit Includes:


  • Lab Society Single-Output Temperature Controller/Monitor – (LS-TCM-S)
  • Eight-inch Teflon-coated (PFA) thermocouple probe
  • Coiled extension cord – for K-type thermocouple probe
  • Condenser Heating Mantle – for Jacketless Condenser (LS-HMS-CM1)
  • Jacketless Condenser – (LS-HJC24-29 or LS-HJC34-29)

Precise, consistent heat.

Together with a precision temperature controller (LS-TCM-S), the mantle gives you the ability to heat the outside of the tube and reach high temperatures (up to 250°C) precisely and consistently.

Safer and more efficient than hot oil.

While hot oil circulators are a tried-and-true method for achieving uniform temperature distribution along a surface, they often have high wattages and make use of hot or potentially dangerous oils.

This 150-watt mantle saves you capital on a heating re-circulator and heating oil, and it is much cleaner and safer for laboratory use.

Controllable via Lab Society’s temperature controllers.

The included mantle insulates and/or heats a glass tube to a set temperature, controlled by one of our temperature controllers (LS-TCM-S or LS-TCM-1).  

Wraps snugly around a 24-35mm glass tube.

The heating mantle is designed to wrap snugly around a glass tube of 24-35mm in outer diameter, with a coverage length of 14”.  

Fasten the mantle to the glass tube by placing a thermocouple in-between the mantle and the glass (through the seam of the mantle), to ensure proper temperature control.

Once the probe has been placed properly, the mantle should then be tightened via its many velcro straps. This setup will ensure efficient and even heating across the condenser surface area.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:

For many condensing applications, heat is generated by the compounds being condensed and thus, energy usage for maintaining precise temperatures is reduced.  When this happens, it is important for the operator to reduce the percentage of power being sent to the mantle via the LS-TCM-S power regulation dial. This mantle is NOT capable of cooling, and it purely serves as an insulator and heat generator to reach specific set points. In specific applications, upon reaching the desired set point, the operator should reduce the power regulator to the minimum setting, and potentially to OFF during “main body” fractions.
